We have been waiting for this Penthouse off Solano to come on the market since we first toured it 4 years ago! This was a “total gut and remodel” done by an American contractor with an Ecuadorian architect. The contractor built it for himself and spared no expense.

When we say total gut and remodel, we mean it was taken all the way back to the cement walls and then rebuilt. New plumbing (with p-traps and vents) and electrical (with a new large fuse panel) was installed throughout. Walls were moved, a solarium was created, a master-suite with walk-in closet was built, ceilings were raised and on and on and on. Again, no expense was spared in this rebuild!

The beauty of the place starts the minute you walk in the door. The architectural design of the space blows you away, with the 11-foot ceilings, the skylights and the solarium… you will stand there for a few moments just admire the place. Then you’ll notice the gas fireplace, the new double-pane windows throughout, the many ceiling arches and the large open living, dining and kitchen space.

But let’s really talk about details. Okay first, the gas fireplace is the only one in the entire building and is vented directly through the roof (legally done). When you’re done looking at that, notice the high-end flooring under your feet. This is the most expensive flooring you can buy in Cuenca; it’s waterproof, has 16 different patterns, and was laid American style versus the typical “zipper’ style you see in most Cuenca condos.

Now, take a look at the kitchen. This will show you how serious the owner was about the details. He used GE Profile appliances throughout. And we mean for every appliance: the large double-door fridge with a bottom-drawer freezer, the 5-burner gas cooktop (and if you want to change that to electric, the builder stubbed out a 220W line in the island just in case), the built-in convection oven, the built-in oven and even the dishwasher. That’s right, a full-size dishwasher! And all of these are complimented in a kitchen of built-in cabinets with a large island with a giant HEPA-filter lighted vent above it (a piece of art in itself), and white quartz countertops and backsplash. The owner even went so far as to run the white quartz backsplash up almost two feet behind the extra deep double-sink. Finish your view of the kitchen by looking up, through the glass ceiling! Talk about every detail being thought of!

Off the kitchen you’ll find the full-sized laundry room with a separate wash sink. And don’t worry, there is a drain in the floor just in case you ever overload the washer that comes with the place (along with the gas dryer). In here you’ll also find the hot-water heater. That’s right, no calefons to worry about here!

As you look around the living space be sure to catch the view out the living room windows. Yes, those are the 3 domes of the new Cathedral! Moving on, you will love the wide-open living and dining rooms that flow into the solarium. This “room” has two sides of sliding doors that open up to bring the outside in. And it was built so that even during a hard rain, you can use half of the space and leave the doors open! It has indoor and outdoor space! Again, with regard to details, the custom tile work in the solarium is laid above a water-proof rubber membrane. So, don’t worry about leaks. All the rain that does fall goes right down a 4-inch drainpipe into the building’s gutter system. On a nice day, don’t hesitate to step up to the raised deck to catch the views of Turi and the Cajas. They are simply stunning, day or night!

As you explore further, you’ll come to the guest room with beautiful arched windows with that same gorgeous view of the 3 domes. And when you walk in the guest bathroom you’ll fall in love with the beautiful hand-cut marble tile flooring and walk-in shower.

Now, maybe the most beautiful place in the condo is at the end of the hallway, behind the set of glass-paneled French-doors. The giant master suite! With over 12 feet of glass looking directly at the Cajas mountains, the light during the day is simply amazing. This room deserves to be seen in the daylight! Behind the sitting area, you’ll find the custom walk-in closet with enough space for 2 people! This is a rare find in Cuenca. Last, the master bath is everything it should be for this beautiful home. With a custom sink and armoire (created from a piece of furniture), hand-cut marble tiles and the two-person walk in shower, this bathroom is unlike any others you’ve seen in so many “cookie-cutter” condos in Cuenca.
